Minimalism, Mommy Life

How I Easily Saved $60 on Pregnancy Books

When I first thought of writing this blog post, it was going to be about ditching the pregnancy books! I was going to share the best pregnancy articles I’ve read and talk about my never-ending love for Pinterest. Then one day, I took a trip to the thrift store.

I was completely intending to go to the book section. I wanted to browse through the kid books and start building a library for my baby girl. Even when I did begin looking through the adult books, I didn’t have my eye out for pregnancy books. They were just kind of…there. And really…really cheap might I add! There was even a store wide sale going on so I got 5 books for under three dollars.

Though I am technically taking in more stuff when I should be minimizing the amount of things I own, I cannot resist a good book. I’ve always loved the feel of bookstores and libraries! Although I do occasionally buy  e-books, nothing beats having my own physical copy. When it comes down to living a minimalistic lifestyle, one of the most important factors in deciding whether to keep something is thinking about if it truly makes you happy. And if there is one thing that can put a smile on this mama’s face, its a good book for a good price.

At some point after giving birth, if I don’t feel the need to hang on to these pregnancy books anymore, I will either pass them along to someone who would like to read them or donate them back to the thrift store. Even if I do decide to keep them in my slowly growing library, I would be content with that choice.

What is the one thing (or collection of things) that you can’t get rid of because you love it so much?

P.S. Here are the books I got just in case you were wondering! 🙂

  • What to Expect When You’re Expecting
  • What to Expect the First Year
  • Super Baby Food
  • Heading Home with Your Newborn
  • + Eat Pray Love
